ACMA audit reassures 5G is safe
The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) welcomes the release of the latest Australian Media and Communications Authority (ACMA) Electromagnetic Energy (EME) audits reassuring all Australians that the EME levels from mobile base stations with 5G enabled are very low. The ACMA audit found the average EME levels from all technologies including 3G, 4G and 5G across 129 base stations was less than 1.5% of the public safety limits and the majority of sites were under 1%.
Ensuring compliance with the mandatory EME safety limits is a fundamental aspect of the Australian mobile networks and the new 5G technology. 5G is a key enabler for Australia, and will not only provide Australians with better connectivity, it will also impact all sectors of our economy and society and ultimately enable industries to become more productive and efficient, helping with the country’s economic recovery following the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The audit also found that carriers are substantially compliant with the deployment code’s consultation requirements. The local community, councils, property owners and occupiers, and community members in sensitive locations are being notified and consulted before construction.
