Shaping Australia’s Mobile Future
AMTA’s Future of Mobile series shows how mobile telecommunication is powering Australia’s digital transformation and driving economic growth. Each part of the series is designed to spark powerful conversations about what mobile telecommunications can make possible.
Developed in partnership with Deloitte Access Economics, AMTA’s research sets clear priorities and delivers strong evidence to decision makers, industry and consumers regarding mobile telecommunications. Ultimately, this supports sound decision making to unlock jobs, encourage investment and boost national productivity.

TELECOMMINUCATIONS REFORMS
Future of Mobile: Modernising Australia’s telecommunications framework demonstrates how even modest reforms would reduce duplication and cut through red tape, unlocking millions in additional infrastructure investment annually.
These improvements will accelerate the rollout of up to 200 new mobile sites every year, supporting better coverage, capacity and resilience nationwide.

Why mobile telecommunication matters
Mobile connectivity underpins Australia’s economy, our safety, and the way we live, work, and participate in society. Mobile telecommunications is one of Australia’s most important enablers of economic growth, innovation and productivity. But unless sustained effort and investment is made, as a nation we will be unprepared for the benefits a digital future can unlock.
As industries become more connected and data‑driven, strong and resilient mobile networks will:
- Strengthen national competitiveness
- Improve safety, efficiency and service delivery across essential sectors
- Support new business models and high‑value jobs
- Expand access to digital services for regional, remote and metropolitan communities
- Drive sustainability and smarter use of resources
